Liberals Ignore Central Coast Council and Community in push to woodchip the Dial Ranges
The Greens in Parliament asked Minister Abetz if he would listen to the Central Coast community and its council and direct Forestry Tasmanian to pause plans to log the Dial Ranges. Unfortunately, the Minister demonstrated he’s deaf to the community’s concerns.
The Central Coast Council voted eight to one in support of a motion for Forestry Tasmania to immediately pause logging plans in the Dial Range, and first establish an evidence-based formal position.
Minister Abetz isn’t interested in the evidence, the community’s concerns or the natural values of the Dial Ranges. However, he is content to spend $15 million on a woodchip processor in Burnie, that could be used to turn this special forest into chips.
Hundreds of local residents, businesses and recreational groups have been pushing back against ludicrous plans to log this iconic forest. It’s got massive natural, economic and recreational values for the region.
Forestry Tasmania must take the logging of Dial Ranges off its Wood Production Program, and allow this treasured community forest to survive intact for the future of all Tasmanians.
