We are interested in the following. Please note that our focus is Tasmania and only very occasionally will we publish material that is not specifically about Tasmania.

standard articles – any Tasmanian subject, up to 800 words. Articles should be well-written, balanced and adequately researched.

feature articles – any Tasmanian subject, up to 2,500 words. Features should develop a theme and explore or argue it comprehensively. Articles should be well-written, balanced and adequately researched. Very long features can be presented as a series if necessary; please enquire before submitting.

photographs – any Tasmanian subject, up to 20 photos. Single ‘press photo’ images are welcome as are photo essays. Photographs must be of suitable technical standard and no more than 1200 x 1600 pixels in size. Please provide a photographer credit and a caption.

video – any Tasmanian subject, up to 8-10 minutes in length. Video must be of suitable audio and visual quality.

audio recordings – any Tasmanian subject, up to 25-30 minutes in length. Audio must be of suitable quality.

creative writing – any Tasmania subject: poems up to 300 words, short stories up to 2000 words.

letters to the editor – any Tasmanian subject, up to 250 words. Letters should be concise, respectful of others and rely on evidence where necessary. Letter writers should provide a real name and town / suburb.

comments – commenting is available on some articles. Please enter your comment using the comment box at the bottom of the article. Please read, understand and observe the code of conduct.

forum posts – you can comment on a range of topics in the Forums. These topics are for longer discussions on themes of ongoing interest in Tasmania.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • all material supplied must be original and owned by the submitting author.
  • authors must grant Tasmanian Times rights for at least 3 months; exclusivity or first publishing rights are not required. After 3 months material will be removed at the author’s request.
  • material that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, discriminatory or in any way legally dubious will not be published.
  • Tasmanian Times does not guarantee publication of any material submitted.
  • Tasmanian Times is not required to provide feedback about material not accepted for publication.

Written material should be text in the body of an email not attached documents.

Submit a statement or media release

Tasmanian Times has always had an interest in making its contribution to the public record of life on the island. Organisations, political parties, unions, cultural bodies, movements and interest groups, government enterprises and programs, political candidates and so on are welcome to have their say.

Statements or media releases submitted must be about Tasmania. We do not accept unsolicited material that is not about Tasmania.

Send your media release or statement to [email protected]. We prefer plain text in the body of an email rather than an attached file like a .doc or .pdf. Please supply an image of the subject matter of your statement and ensure that we have the right to use it. Audio files and video files are also welcome, or links to where they are available on the web. If your organisation publishes media releases on your own site, please also link to that.

Request a review

Tasmanian Times accepts, without obligation, review copies of books, magazines, DVDs and other hardcopy materials. Items submitted must be substantially about or highly relevant to Tasmania.

Tasmanian Times is unable to return review copies and reserves the right to dispose of them as we see fit.

We also accept invitations to events to review (or preview) artistic performances. Please send invitations well in advance to [email protected]. Invitations or tickets should be for two seats; door list inclusion is acceptable. We cannot guarantee that a review will be published or that it will be favorable. Invitations should specify if performer interviews are available and whether recording by any means is permitted.
