Environment and climate groups from across the state demand real climate action as Parliament resumes
Twenty environment and climate groups from across lutruwita/Tasmania have come together in an open letter, calling on MPs to take real climate action as Parliament resumes (see attached).
“Tasmania’s climate is already changing. We know that it’s only going to get worse. Our people and island are under threat,” Rachel Hay, Tasmanian Conservation Trust Climate Campaigner said.
“The Tasmanian Government is lagging behind on climate action. Delay and dismissal have become the new denial.
“The Tasmania Government has failed to release an overdue transport sector emissions reduction plan, committed to more native forest logging and removed our climate change ministry.
“If the Tasmanian Government continues to fail on climate action, we will not meet our net zero by 2030 goal, legislated in Tasmania’s Climate Change Act.
“As Parliament resumes, our politicians must listen to the Tasmanian people and take real climate action. We need plans and targets for real emissions reductions across sectors, and an end to the logging of our carbon-rich native forests.”
