Penguin road opening for community ride
Bicycle Network is helping north-west locals get ready to ride the closed Penguin Road on Saturday 11 November as part of the Spirit of Tasmania Cycling Tour.
“The Tour is opening the Penguin road for a community ride before the race comes through,” Bicycle Network spokesperson Alison Hetherington said.
“This is a one-off opportunity to enjoy the coastal views without the worry of cars.
“Get your family out of bed or get a group of friends together to start the day with a unique ride for Tasmania.
“There are choices of an 8km or 17km ride, depending on how far you think you’ll get in one and a quarter hours.”
The community rides will start from 8am and entry fees apply, with online registrations being taken at touroftasmania.com/
“If you think you need some help to enjoy the community ride, our Back on your Bike program is offering free sessions in the lead up to it, Ms Hetherington said.
“These sessions run for 90 minutes and cover basic riding skills like turning, braking, riding slowly and handling an e-bike.
“On Thursday 9 November we’ll be at Devonport for two sessions then we’ll be really covering ground on Friday 10 November, with sessions at Ulverstone, Penguin and Burnie.
“All the Back on your Bike sessions are free but numbers are limited so we require registrations via bicyclenetwork.com.au/back-on-
“We’ll also be at the community hub in Penguin on the Saturday so if you miss out on these sessions come and talk to us to schedule another time to get riding again.
