Media release – Commissioner for Transport, 25 October 2023
Lane closures on Bass Highway east of Tollymore Road
There will be single lane closures on the Bass Highway between Tollymore Road and Baulds Road at Table Cape over the coming months as we connect a new realigned section to the existing highway.
From today the highway will be restricted to one lane at the Baulds Road end of the realignment.
Once that is completed, a similar lane closure will be in place at the Tollymore Road end to allow work on that connection to be completed.
Temporary traffic signals will be used to control traffic where the highway is restricted to one lane.
The lane closure will remain in place for the duration even when workers aren’t on-site.
Motorists should allow up to eight minutes extra travel time during this work.
These works will be completed by the end of 2023, weather permitting, and the realigned section will then be fully opened to traffic.
The entire East of Tollymore Road realignment project, which includes upgrades to the Tollymore Road junction with the Bass Highway, should be finished in early 2024.
For the safety of workers and road users, keep to the speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.
Please take extra care, slow down to maintain control and allow extra space ahead as you drive through the roadworks due to the temporary gravel road and loose surface.
