Future focus – sibyls in Hobart 21-23 April

In ancient Greece the Sibyls told the future and gave warnings.

The modern Sibyls make their Hobart debut on Friday 21st April.

They will also appear on Saturday (Earth Day) and in a Sunday footpath walk with placards such as “Doing nothing risks everything.”

Speakers: Over the weekend Bob Brown, Kai Harrison, Steve Biddulph, David Bowman, Scott Bell and dozen others will tell us how the future looks to them.

Bob Brown says “We want people to take action … our logo is ‘Don’t get depressed, get active’ … if you’re angry and you don’t act on it, you will get depressed….

“There’s something in the air, and I like it and I support it … seeing these young men and women, and I think, isn’t this fantastic?”

Kai Harrison of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition says, “We’re fighting for the future of young people on this planet. We have a limited amount of time to act and we’re calling on government and industry to safeguard our future rather than propping up dangerous fossil fuel projects.”

Scott Bell, a sibyl, says, I’m frightened about the worsening global impacts of the climate emergency , magnified by poor political response, weak environmental laws, and corporate greed and destruction.

“So I must continue my work as an environmentalist and conservationist, and more importantly, as a climate activist.”
