January 31, Waratah Wynyard Council Community Conversation with some council officers at the Atheneaum Hall. An old grey fart asks to read out 14 questions from interstate property owners who could not attend – see below.
Concept forcefully rejected by ‘old mate’ Councillor Hyland and old grey fart quietly departs.
This is not an open and consultative council and the town does not fit into the equation it seems.
The questions are listed below verbatim with no changes from me.
- Housing crisis in Waratah. Place caveat on sales of land to ensure people build within 3 years and live here
- $1.4 million achieved from land sales etc. Where in Waratah is it going?
- Fix playground that has flags around it – been like that for 6 months (see photo)
- Need a primary school to encourage growth of town
- Fix the damn dam!
- Ridiculous Christmas decorations are an insult
- Local council worker needs long term help for maintenance
Some of the above issues are not just for the council to address but also the state government who of course did nothing to help the town celebrate its 150th anniversary on 4 December 2021
The following are clearly the remit of the council:-
- Are you going to effect maintenance of loop track etc. now associated land is going to be sold?
- Land sales – are they going to be released and sold on open negotiations (like unpaid rates sales)?
- Maintenance of example end of William St into the loop track – roads in general – end of Que Street should be cleaned up and made into a cul de sac
- What’s happening with Duncanson street? Are they going to extend the sealed section to the end? Or at least make it drivable to non-4-wheel drives as well?
- Council selling land at 6 Main St that a public attraction sits on, ie. old machines parts etc. Where are they relocating stuff to? (see photo)
- The Waratah Lake levee wall repairs – when is this happening, now they have money from unpaid rates?
- What is the township getting back from the money made in these sales?
- Tip needs to be cleaned up – rate payers not getting good services from rates paid, no recycling at all
A couple from the Bischoff today:
- Who owns the nursery at 2 William St and the enclosed unpaid rate area at 10 William St? A councillor or friend/cohort?
- Will you place sign at Main St/Waratah Rd cornet that says turn left for Waratah Falls view for travellers arriving from Corinna?
And one from me :-
- When is the next election for the Waratah Community Board? No members live in town!
This council does not care for the Waratah community and prioritises the Wynyard township and surrounds like Somerset, Cooee, and Sisters Beach – remember the $1.4 million ‘loo with a view’ on Table Cape.
Tasmanian council plan for toilet overhanging coastline praised by tourism authorities – ABC News
A change is required at the next election!
