Libraries Tasmania is providing a range of activities to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people during NAIDOC Week, 6 – 13 July 2025. This year’s theme is The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.
There will be activities to mark the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC in both public libraries and the State Library and Archives of Tasmania.
Public Libraries
There are plenty of ways to be involved in NAIDOC Week at local libraries:
- Find NAIDOC Week events at local libraries on Eventbrite. Read more on the Libraries Tasmania NAIDOC Week webpage.
- Attend ‘Living Cultures – Introduction to The Orb’ event by proud Palawa woman Kylie Dickson at Rosny, Glenorchy, Kingston and Hobart libraries in the south.
- Listen to stories and culture on the Orb – an online library that celebrates Tasmanian Aboriginal people and the interconnections between country, culture, identity and community.
- Read Tasmanian picture book Here on Sea Country written by Kylie Dickson, Leanne Pelikan, Christina Schleich (Mansell) and Nicole Smith, available for loan by placing a hold.
- Watch movie screenings from the Beamafilm collection highlighting Aboriginal films and filmmakers.
- Search for Aboriginal content in eBooks and eAudiobooks in your eLibrary.
- Explore the books on the NAIDOC Week feature specially curated by our librarians.
- Visit your local library to view vibrant NAIDOC Week displays.
The State Library and Archives of Tasmania
Visit the Ground Floor of the State Library and Archives of Tasmania, Hobart at 91 Murray Street to view a display celebrating fifty years of NAIDOC Week, between 6 – 13 July 2025.
The State Library and Archives of Tasmania is showcasing a display of Aboriginal history, politics, and cultural materials, including past NAIDOC Week posters from 1975 to present. The display recognises the legacy and achievements of the Tasmanian Aboriginal community, both past and present.
