Design Tasmania recently welcomed over 150 guests to farewell Exhibition One and launch Exhibition Two of the 2025 Tasmania Makes program, side-by-side in the galleries for one day only.
Guests included specifiers and buyers from the architectural and interior design community, the general public and designer-makers from across the island to hear about the impact of the program from the DT Artistic Director, industry partners and the makers themselves.
Four design works from Exhibition Two were acquired into the significant State Collection held at Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), purchased with funds from the TMAG Foundation. The acquisitions will enhance TMAG’s collection through this investment in Tasmania’s community of contemporary craftspeople and designers, acknowledging the contribution they make to Tasmania’s cultural heritage.
Exhibition Two will run until 21 September and features work by Craig Ashton, Travis Bell, Geoff Farquhar-Still, Benjamin Grieve-Johnson, Elliot Hall, Sharon O’Donnell and Stuart Williams.
Nine participants from Exhibition One had work purchased, commissioned, published or shortlisted for upcoming national prizes and exhibitions—including the 2025 NGV Rigg Design Prize (35 Under 35) and the Clarence Prize 2025.
Visitors to our gallery made various comments about the event:
“Beautiful space and a great exhibition to complement it,” said one. “Amazing… an incredible display of talent and imagination,” observed another.
