A new EMRS poll has confirmed the minority Liberal government’s poor standing on major issues.
According to the statewide poll of 500 Tasmanians , nearly half of all respondents (47 percent) thought the budget was bad for Tasmania, compared to just over a quarter (26 per cent) who thought it was good.
When asked whether the budget would leave them better or worse off, a total of 37 per cent, indicated it would leave them worse off, compared to just 11 per cent better off.
Dissatisfaction with budget measures was strong in many key areas.
Respondents were also asked how they felt key issues were addressed in the budget, producing the following strong net negatives:
Cost of living: 56% total unsatisfied, 16% total satisfied.
Health: 50% total unsatisfied, 30% satisfied
Housing: 55% total unsatisfied, 18% satisfied
Debt: 60% total unsatisfied, 15% satisfied
In accordance with previous surveys, the poll also showed majority opposition to the controversial Macquarie Point stadium.
Specifically the poll also asked respondents whether they supported or opposed the stadium’s enabling legislation, with 30 per cent support and 57 per cent opposition.
“The State Budget has again underwhelmed with Tasmanian voters”, EMRS Managing Director Mary Massina said.
“The issue of debt was the biggest concern in the budget, with 38 per cent of voters “strongly dissatisfied” and 23 per cent “somewhat dissatisfied”. Only 2 per cent of voters were “very satisfied” with the budget’s management of debt.
Massina said that the opposition to the stadium enabling legislation was consistent with polled levels of opposition to the stadium.
“Across the state, percentage support levels for the stadium enabling legislation were Bass 29-58, Braddon 31-57, Lyons 24-62, Franklin 38-48, and Clark 28-61.
EMRS said that this poll was undertaken from Monday 2 – Thursday 5 June 2025 via EMRS’ Tasmanian Community Online Panel. Results were weighted to age, gender, region and past vote.

Can we also mention how the Liberals keep mentioning that they’re “slashing public transport fares for students and regional passengers” while conveniently forgetting that they are actually making fares more expensive for the majority of us in the state? ‘Way to go’ on cost of living measures!
Also they would spend $76M on a new access road into the Mac Point stadium while only spending about $2M on public transport infrastructure.
I love Liberal budgets, they’re amazing economic managers 😀

This reminds me of the front page of the Nation Review newspaper when the coup caretaker of the Federal Parliament unveiled the Liberal party election slogan in 1975.
That was Malcolm Fraser, and the Liberal slogan was ‘Turn on the lights’. Below the Review was printed ‘because you can’t trust the buggers in the dark.’

Anyone but Eric !
Look at his CV and then remind everyone that he would sell the ABC if he could, but of course he will use it for his own purposes!
Put Erica Betz last!
