Whether you’re a muso or a ‘fan girl/boy’, take 5 is an opportunity for you to stop and connect. A place to stop and take 5 with your favourite artists.
There is something comforting about connecting with the ‘famous’, to know we are all the same in some way.
ABC’s Take 5, hosted by Zan Rowe allows the ‘everyday folk’ to do just this. In each episode, Zan picks someone (old and new) within the music world to deep dive into their own fangirling of their favourite artists.
Zan touches on topics that are relevant to us all and allows the artist to talk and connect to music in a way that we all do.
In Zan’s take 5 with Stella Donnelley, the topic of belonging is the theme and there are songs that make us feel at home. Stella is a Welsh-Australian indie rock singer-songwriter and guitarist and her choices of songs are so vastly different but all meaningful and touching to Stella. The conversation opens up the notion that; where we come from and how we choose to identify and belong is so vastly different and personal. A feeling that we can all relate to.

In one episode with Julia Jacklin (self described as a Melbourne-via-Blue Mountains singer/songwriter), Julia explains her pure dedication to being witness to one of her favourite artists and how her connection to music and artists makes her also melt in moments that feel magical and personal with the artist, a simple brush of the hand to which Julia can relate.

Whether you’re a muso or a fan girl/boy, Take 5 is a place to stop and connect. A place to stop and take 5 with your favourite artists.
As Kate Miller Hieke says, music is what connects us. Connection is what makes life worth living.
Take a moment (for yourself) to take 5 with your favourite artist, and Zan Rowe. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
My mind is a busy place, sometimes it acts as a gift but sometimes is pretty confusing and messy. I use writing as a form of therapy for my busy mind. As you could imagine, there is no clear structure to my thoughts – although this does allow my writing to be an act of pure inspiration. What I see, what I feel, what I hear or simply how I experience each moment of this little thing called life. ‘Take 5 to connect’ was inspired by needing a moment to myself on a family holiday. The entire holiday had an underlying tone of connection; a wedding, Christmas and two weeks with family. When I found myself ‘taking 5’ with Zan Rowe, I instantly felt a connection to the artists (not only because I am a fan of them) because I got to know a deeper, personally side to them. As a result, take 5 to connect was created.. I hope you are also inspired to connect … Eliza Jane

I agree with Eliza about Zan Rowe’s Connect 5.
If you love music, any sort really, it’s a terrific style of interview that provides a direct empathetic understanding of the performer / composer being interviewed – even if you’re not that into their genre, and it gives insights into composing and musical history that resonate.
I’ve loved both series.
