Master Builders’ new initiative to support women in Tasmania’s construction industry
Master Builders Tasmania has launched the SeeHER project – a four-part initiative designed to support women in Tasmania’s construction industry.
Master Builders Tasmania CEO David Clerk said women were vital to the workforce.
“The building and construction sector is one of Tasmania’s largest employers and plays an important role in our economy. It’s crucial to have women as part of our workforce in order to meet the current and future demands of our sector.
“By increasing the number of women in construction, we can also create a more equal Tasmania where women are empowered to work in any industry they chose.”
SeeHER is a partnership with Loreto Community Housing, St Joseph Affordable Homes and EPIC – Empowering People In Construction.
The four-part initiative encompasses:
- BecomeHER: A school initiative encouraging young women into construction careers through site tours, industry discussions panels.
- ConstructHER: A pre-employment program offering essential certifications and mentorship to help women start and grow in the industry.
- EmployHER: Industry discussions providing resources, support, and guidance to employers in construction.
- RetainHER: Cultural transformation training aimed at fostering inclusivity, addressing biases, and creating a supportive work environment.
Each program supports women’s participation and retention in construction. The project will be delivered in Cambridge, Invermay and Devonport.
SeeHER is an initiative under the Federal Government’s Building Women’s Careers Program.
The SeeHER program will be officially launch at the following events:
Tuesday 1 April, 12pm-2pm – Peppers Silo Launceston
Wednesday 2 April, 12pm-2pm, MBT Head Office Cambridge
