Budding filmmakers and creative storytellers are invited to showcase their talent in the 2025 Weindorfer Short Film Festival, a ‘celebration of Tasmania’s natural wilderness, conservation efforts and the power of individuals to create positive change’.
Festival organisers say it is an opportunity for young and aspiring filmmakers to develop their skills, gain visibility and have their work seen by industry professionals and a broader audience.
Finalists will receive recognition, mentorship and the chance to have their films featured at the festival’s premiere event on 4 May 2025 at Weindorfer Day in Wilmot.
The inaugural Weindorfer Film Festival showcased the winning short films at the annual Weindorfer Day in May last year 2024.
This year the festival wants to extend its reach to all of Tasmania and even to the mainland.
“Our vision for the Weindorfer Film Festival is that it will become a major iconic event for Tasmania,” said Sandra Rowden-Rich, Vice-President of the Weindorfer Association.
“We hope the Weindorfer Award carries prestige and pride for the winners and entrants, showcasing how much you care for the wilderness, the unique beauty and quality of the World Heritage Conservation Areas of Tasmania, or how one or two people can make a positive difference to the world.”
The Weindorfer Short Film Festival honours the legacy of Gustav and Kate Weindorfer, and aims to inspire filmmakers to showcase Tasmania’s natural beauty, culture, and heritage while fostering creativity, community and connection.
The festival highlights films that explore:
- The value of Tasmania’s natural wilderness
- The Cradle Mountain World Heritage Area
- The profound influence of conservation pioneers of Cradle Mountain and the Tasmanian environment
- How one or two people can make a difference in the world.
Whether you’re an emerging filmmaker or a seasoned professional, this festival provides a platform to share your 5-minute short film with an engaged audience.
