Media release – SHE (Support, Hope and Education), 2 February 2025
Turn Tassie Teal for a cause
SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group is calling on all Tassie businesses – cafes, pubs, bars, restaurants, retailers and anyone with a window front – to Turn Tassie Teal.
February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and SHE (Support, Hope and Education) are urging all Tasmanians to get involved.
SHE Chair Scott Harris said that providing the teal visual prompt was intended to bring the cause to the forefront of people’s minds.
“We hope that by shining a light across Tasmania we can raise awareness, start conversations, encourage people to donate and ultimately save lives in the fight against ovarian cancer.
“If you’d like to get involved, we encourage you to light up your business or workplace teal for February.
“We’ve got posters with QR codes for people to donate to SHE with all funds raised staying in Tasmania to help us build our recently launched Cancer Wellness Centre.”
The Tasmanian Hospitality Association is on board and promoting the cause to its members to get involved with a splash of teal.
Farzi co-owner, Varun Khetarpal said he were proud to take part and would be lighting up and decorating his Salamanca venue to shine a light on the cause.
“This is such an important cause to get behind and we’re really pleased to not only light up the venue teal but to help raise some much-needed funds,” Varun said.
The fourth annual Teal NBL game will be held on February 8 and teal JackJumpers jerseys are on sale now.
The sold-out game against the Cairns Taipans at MyState Bank Arena is the JackJumpers last home game of the season and is inspired by the late Jo Harris whose courageous battle with ovarian cancer is driving SHE’s ongoing advocacy.
Those taking part in Turning Tassie Teal should tag SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group on social media and use the hashtag #tassieturnsteal.
