Tasmanian Bike Week starts on Saturday 1 March and offers everyone the chance to go for a ride, whether it’s an easy route on an e-bike or time trial up Kunanyi/Mt Wellington.
“Part of the joy of riding a bike is to do it in a group. Whether that’s in the early morning to avoid the traffic, or in the middle of the day to enjoy the sunshine,” Bicycle Network spokesperson Alison Hetherington said.
“Bicycle Network volunteers are leading free social rides throughout the week and the Hobart Wheelers are kicking off the week early on Saturday 1 March with the Kunanyi Challenge time trial.
“This year Eudaimonia Tasmanian Cycling Tours are offering free spots in their three weekly bunch rides and free cycle maintenance workshops in conjunction with Cyclingo and Giant bike stores. Rides leave from Bob & Tom’s on Sandy Bay Road and head to Mount Nelson on the Wednesday, Kingston on the Thursday and a women’s ride on the Friday.
“And on Sunday 2 March the Hobart Bike Kitchen are launching their new workshop at the Hobart Tip Shop between 12 and 3pm. The Bike Kitchen is run by volunteers who help people fix old bikes, equipping them with the skills they’ll need to keep their bike on the road.
“Every Bike Week Bicycle Network organises volunteers across Hobart to count bike and scooter movements as part of the annual Super Tuesday commuter count. This year’s count will be happening at more than 50 intersections across Hobart between 7 and 9am on Tuesday 4 March.”
