Media release – Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for the Arts and Heritage, 31 January 2025
Alone Australia returns to Tasmania
Ten Australians will be dropped off in the Tasmanian wilderness and battle against nature and themselves to secure a prize of $250,000 in the third season of Alone Australia.
The hit SBS series is returning to Tasmania with the assistance of the Tasmanian Government’s $1 million dollar Island Screen Incentive Program.
Minister for the Arts and Heritage, Madeleine Ogilvie, has congratulated the series on being the first recipient of the new grant.
“Season 1 of Alone Australia was filmed in Tasmania, but season 2 shifted to New Zealand, so it’s great to see our program working to attract high-value screen productions to our state,” Minister Ogilvie said.
“More screen productions being filmed in Tasmania means more employment and skills development for our creative workers, as well as expenditure in the State economy.
“Screen productions such as Alone Australia are also a terrific way to showcase our lifestyle, landscape, and built heritage with the rest of the world.
Alone Australia has received a grant of $170,000 as part of the Island Screen Incentive Program, a 2024-25 State Budget Initiative.
Alone Australia will air on SBS and SBS On Demand in 2025.

When I read the title of this article I thought it was the story of the Tasmanian government!

What a farce! And yes, partly financed by Tasmanian taxpayers. There is nothing inspiring about survival in a highly disturbed environment, so this is merely media sensationalism – yet again!
“Screen productions such as Alone Australia are also a terrific way to showcase our lifestyle, landscape and built heritage with the rest of the world”.
It seems it’s just as MHA Madeline Ogilvie states above, namely that if you conjure up a proposal about promoting Tasmania then the government will back it with dollars!
It’s typical of the Liberal/Labor troglodytes that they can’t comprehend or identify any difference between pristine nature and trashed nature.
I wouldn’t waste my time viewing it!
