The Unconformity festival returns 16–19 October 2025

The Unconformity is pleased to announce the highly-anticipated return of western lutruwita/Tasmania’s signature event, The Unconformity festival, to be held across four days from 16–19 October 2025.

The 2025 festival marks the first in a new phase for the organisation, under the leadership of CEO Louisa Gordon and Artistic Director Loren Kronemyer, both of whom commenced in their roles this year after the departure of founding Artistic Director and CEO, Travis Tiddy.

The biennial festival commenced in 2010 as Queenstown Heritage and Arts Festival, before reimagining itself as The Unconformity in 2016. The organisation has helped raise the national and international profile of the west coast as an art-making community and organisers look forward to the eighth edition of the festival once again providing a significant economic boost for the region’s artists and visitor economy.

The Unconformity CEO Louisa Gordon took the opportunity to invite visitors to the west coast to experience the very best creative, cultural and scenic experiences during the festival. ‘I look forward to the year ahead and working with west coast community members, businesses and government to strengthen cultural capacity and economic development across the region,’ she said. ‘Since the inception of our biennial festival, born out of Project Queenstown’s consultation with the community and their desire to hold a significant event, The Unconformity continues to honour its origins to deliver a festival that is of and singular to this unique place.’

Artistic Director Loren Kronemyer foreshadowed a vibrant 2025 festival program. ‘The Unconformity has always understood that art can explore the future – for this region, and for similar places around the world. With this in mind, our 2025 program will honour both beloved festival traditions and playful new experiments unique to the west coast,’ she said. ‘We invite you to join us for a festival full of collaboration and celebration, where you can see, feel, and taste for yourself the wild creative vitality that makes this end of the earth unique.’

The rare award-winning festival draws audiences from interstate and overseas to the remote region of lutruwita/Tasmania’s west coast. Visiting audiences are encouraged to secure their festival accommodation early and plan their journey by contacting the West Coast Visitor Information Centre: westcoasttas.com.au

The festival program will be released in August 2025. Audiences can subscribe for updates at theunconformity.com.au/subscribe.
