An emergency relief package announced today will deliver assistance to Tasmanian households and community service organisations following recent wild weather.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Minister for Community Services Roger Jaensch, announced the package at Beaconsfield Neighbourhood House on Wednesday.
“A $350 grant will be available to Tasmanians households that have been impacted by power outages for at least 72 hours,” Premier Rockliff said.
“These have been very challenging circumstances, with many households having the contents of their fridge and freezers ruined by sustained power outages.
“With cost-of-living pressures challenging many household budgets, the unexpected expense of restocking the fridge and freezer will be difficult for many Tasmanians.
“This emergency relief will go towards helping flood-affected Tasmanians re-purchase food, water and essential supplies.”
The Tasmanian Government is also taking immediate action to support community organisations providing food and water relief across the state.
Ro9ckliff noted that Tasmanians have turned to Neighbourhood Houses, Loaves and Fishes and Foodbank for support in recent days.
“We are delivering a one-off grant to each organisation to help with the ongoing food relief being provided to flood-affected communities,” he said.
“A $255,000 grant will be provided to Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania, supporting the 34 houses across the state, while Loaves and Fishes and Foodbank will each receive $50,000.”
Minister Jaensch said these organisations do a fantastic job supporting Tasmanians in need.
“Our government is delivering this emergency relief to our community services to ensure they can continue to provide emergency supplies to Tasmanians across the state,” Jaensch said.
The Emergency Food Relief Package is in addition to the Emergency Assistance Grants for residents in the Derwent Valley.
The Tasmanian Government continues to work with local councils on the impact to communities and businesses.
Applications for the Emergency Food Relief Package can be made online via Department of Premier and Cabinet – Community grants or via TasALERT.
