Tasmania Police report that a person has died following a wounding incident at Newnham this afternoon.
Police and emergency services were directed to an address in Tompsons Lane about 14:45 after calls that advising that a man had been stabbed.
The incident occurred following an altercation between two people known to each other.
The victim was taken to the Launceston General Hospital with serious injuries, however has since died.
A man was quickly taken into custody at the scene, and is said to be “assisting police with their inquiries.”
Police remain at the scene and say that there is no threat to the wider community; a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Police are expected to provide further information about the Newnham incident on Thursday morning.

Update: Police have formally charged a 27-year-old Newnham man with murder, following the death of a 42-year-old male from Mowbray. He will be brought before the Launceston Magistrates Court this morning.
Police say the parties were known to each other, and the incident occurred in a private residence.
