Funding agreement brings Mac Point redevelopment another step closer

The Tasmanian Government continues to progress the urban renewal of Mac Point, with a funding agreement now in place between the Australian and Tasmanian Governments.

The agreement is supported by the Australian Government’s Budget released earlier this week, which saw $240 million allocated to the project over three years commencing in 2025-26.

Importantly, this funding agreement meets another condition of the Tasmanian Club Funding and Development Agreement with the Australian Football League (AFL).

Acting Minister for Sport and Events, Nick Duigan, said the Mac Point Urban Renewal project will help drive economic activity across the entire state.

“This agreement includes the terms for unlocking the Australian Governments $240 million funding commitment for the development of the site, leading to millions of dollars of other investments and thousands of jobs,” Minister Duigan said.

“This is another important milestone as we continue towards delivering what is a once in a generation opportunity for Tasmanians.

“The excitement is building around Mac Point and it is easy to see why.  This precinct is set to deliver significant economic, cultural, and social benefits for all Tasmanians.

“Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are getting on with the job of delivering this landmark infrastructure project, keeping our economy strong and creating jobs.”
