SFF MEDIA STATEMENT: ADVOCATING FOR HEALTHCARE REFORM

The Shooters, Fishers & Farmers Party is committed to advocating for comprehensive healthcare reform in Tasmania. At the recent Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Tasmanian Branch forum, alongside the manifesto presented by the ANMF, we have proposed additional measures aimed at addressing critical issues within the healthcare system.

Among our proposals is the establishment of scholarships for allied professionals, nurses, doctors, and paramedics in Tasmania. These scholarships will not only support the education and training of future healthcare professionals but also ensure a sustainable workforce in the healthcare sector.

Furthermore, we advocate for:

Paid Placements for Student Nurses and Midwives: We propose paid placements for all student nurses and midwives to alleviate financial burdens and decrease dropout rates. By providing financial support during their training, we aim to encourage more individuals to pursue careers in nursing and midwifery.

Concessions on Tuition Fees: We call for concessions on tuition fees and zero costs for students requiring medical verifications relevant to their courses. Access to affordable education is crucial in attracting and retaining students in the healthcare field.

Reinstatement of the Direct Entry Bachelor of Midwifery Program: We advocate for the reinstatement of the Direct Entry Bachelor of Midwifery program in Tasmania to address the growing demand for midwifery services in the region.

Recruitment and Retention of Tasmanian Students: Initiatives aimed at recruiting and retaining Tasmanian students for the future of healthcare in the region are essential. By investing in local talent, we can strengthen Tasmania’s healthcare workforce and improve access to quality care for all residents.

Legislative Changes for Nurse Practitioners: We support legislative changes enabling nurse practitioners to work at their full scope of practice. Empowering nurse practitioners will enhance healthcare delivery and address the growing demand for primary care services.
Establishment of State Government-Run Nurse Practitioner Medical Facilities: We propose the establishment of state government-run nurse practitioner medical facilities in outer communities like Ouse. Ensuring equitable access to healthcare services in rural and remote areas is paramount to improving health outcomes for all Tasmanians.

Investing in these initiatives is crucial for immediate healthcare improvement and securing the future health of Tasmania. The Shooters, Fishers & Farmers Party remains committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders to implement these reforms and ensure a healthier future for all Tasmanians.
