Liberals Release First 100 Days Plan

The Liberals have today released our First 100 Days Plan, as the first step in implementing our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is all about delivering on the things that matter most to Tasmanians right now, such as cost of living, health, and housing,” the Premier said.

“Our First 100 Days Plan lays out how we will get about implementing the 2030 Strong Plan, immediately upon being sworn in.

“Following the new Cabinet being sworn in, Ministers will formally hand the 2030 Strong Plan document to their Departmental Heads, and establish clear KPIs for its delivery.

“Importantly, we will also restore quarterly reporting of progress against delivering the 2030 Strong Plan, so Tasmanians can clearly see the progress being made and hold us accountable for delivering.

“Additionally, in the first week we will establish the timetable for the return of Parliament so that we are able to deliver as soon as possible on those aspects of our Plan – such as Stamping Out Stamp Duty – which will require legislation to implement.”

The Premier said that tomorrow’s election is a critical choice for Tasmanians, and that Tasmanians should not assume that the Liberals will be re-elected.

“In 1989, Liberal Premier Robin Gray secured 47 per cent of the vote and 17 seats,” the Premier said.

“But Labor did a deal with the Greens.

“And in 2010, they did again.

“So, let’s not kid ourselves.

“Labor will absolutely do a deal with the Greens, the Lambies and whoever else they can find.

“So, I ask you to think about this:

“Don’t risk sleepwalking back into a Labor-led minority government.

“Don’t risk waking up on Sunday morning to a Coalition of Chaos.

“Don’t risk our state going backwards.

“We have done a lot. There’s more to do. There’s a lot at risk.

“Vote Liberal 1 to 7 for the majority Liberal Government Tasmania needs.”

Media release – Rebecca White MP, Tasmanian Labor Leader, 22 March 2024

It’s time for urgent action on the cost of living, and a better future for Tasmania

Tasmanians have a clear choice when they head to the polls tomorrow.

After five weeks of campaigning the focus of this election has narrowed to two things – which party will take urgent action on the cost of living, and which party has the best plans for a better future for Tasmania.

The answer is clear.

Under a Labor Government, Tasmanians will pay Tasmanian prices for Tasmanian power.

Our GameChanger initiative will mean Tasmanians can buy a home with zero deposit and get off the rental treadmill.

We will open more childcare centres around the state, so families can go to work and pay the bills.

We will provide free school lunches in every primary school, saving parents on the weekly grocery shop.

And we will begin to repair the health system after 10 years of the Liberals, with free degrees for health workers, better healthcare in our regions and a new public hospital in Hobart.

The only way to make sure there is a change in government is to vote Labor.

A vote for the Greens, or independents risks giving the Liberals 14 years.

After 10 years of a Liberal government, it’s time for a better future.

Media release – Tasmanian Greens, 22 March 2024

Greens commit positive vision for Tasmania

Tasmania desperately needs a change after nine years of missed opportunities and inaction. Our state is now at a tipping point, making this election not only a generational opportunity for change but also one of the most important state elections of our time.

The Greens have run a strong, energetic campaign with a positive vision for Tasmania, and no matter what the outcome of tomorrow’s election is, we look forward to working hard in parliament to bring down the cost of living and housing, tackle the health crisis, protect our island home’s unique environment, and much more.

Quotes attributable to Greens Leader & candidate for Franklin, Rosalie Woodruff MP:

“It’s been a momentous campaign and I’m so proud to have led this Green team. We’ve put things on the agenda – like free public transport, renters rights and stronger environment laws.

“The Greens have been the only party presenting real plans to tackle ambulance ramping, to remove the fish farms from Macquarie Harbour – and for future focussed jobs, and nature tourism.

“More than ever, we know this generation of Tasmanians needs a parliament of leaders working to tackle the climate crisis.

“We’ve heard Tasmanians – we know there is a desperate need for change. The Greens are ready to be that change.”

Quotes attributable to Greens candidate for Clark, Vica Bayley MP:

“I’m really proud to have been part of this campaign, with such an incredible team. The Greens have been positive, and propositional.

“We haven’t stooped to toxic attack ads, like Labor and Liberal politicians.

“It’s now up to the Tasmanian people. Whatever happens after this weekend, the Greens will continue with positivity and vision within the Parliament.

“The Greens will work for positive change for Tasmanians, their special place and for those without a voice.”

Quotes attributable to Greens candidate for Bass, Cecily Rosol:

“Greens volunteers have been the lifeblood of our campaign here in Bass, it’s been incredible to see so many people get out there, spread the Greens message and advocate for the changes Tasmanians deserve.

“I’m excited by the possibility of doing things differently in this state, and creating a future where people’s needs are put first, our environment is cared for, and where big corporations pay their fair share.”

Quotes attributable to Greens candidate for Lyons, Tabatha Badger:

“It has been a privilege to speak with and advocate for the people of Lyons, and share the positive vision the Greens have for Tassie’s future.

“Right now more than ever politics needs a shake up. With so many vested interests, neither of the old parties are able to represent the true values of our communities.

“The Greens are the party putting forward practical solutions to the cost of living crisis and the environmental crisis. It’s time to put people before profit, and fight for a future for all of us by voting Green!”

Quotes attributable to Greens candidate for Braddon, Darren Briggs:

“It’s been another whirlwind campaign in Braddon. From the conversations I’ve had on the doors or at street chats or through online engagement there’s certainly a sense of a need for change, with a strong appetite for new ideas and faces in Tasmania’s parliament.

“The issues of healthcare, housing and cost of living are certainly on people’s minds. While there is the desire for a Tasmanian AFL team I can count on less than two hands the number of voters who support a tax-payer funded stadium in Hobart.

“I feel proud that the policies that we are taking to this election which not only tackle the current needs but go a long way to addressing the root cause of inequality in our communities.”

Statement – JLN, 22 March 2024

A message from Jacqui

It’s time for change.

Both major parties seem to have shelved plans to do any actual governing. They just pop out at election time with a bucketload of promises they won’t be about to keep.

It’s a disgrace. We’re offering Tasmanians the choice of a fourth political party, which actually cares about representing the people of Tasmania, not just big business and union interests. Representatives who will stand up for more transparency in our Parliament so Tasmanians will know where their hard earned dollars are being spent.

It’ll be the Jacqui Lambie Network’s job to bring in the common sense of ordinary Tasmanians and to apply that common sense as we review the laws the Government wants to pass. It’s that simple.

If that sounds refreshing then please give us your vote on election day. We’d really appreciate it!

Statement – Animal Justice Party, 22 March 2024

Our final pitch

Animal Justice Party Tasmania key election platforms:

  • Legislate measures to reduce roadkill: road design with wildlife in mind; reduced speed limits dusk to dawn; driver education program; financial support for wildlife carers.
  • End Government funding of horse and greyhound racing; ban whips, twitches and tongue ties;Legislate the rehabilitation and rehoming of retired racing animals. Goal – to end animal racing.
  • Ban the hunting of native animals; commercialisation of native animal body parts to cease; non-lethal alternatives to killing for crop protection .
  • Companion animal support: end discrimination against tenants with companion animals; outlaw puppy and kitten farming; recognise animal sentience and abolish the property status of animals.
  • No to factory farmed fish in Tasmania, in the sea or on land; protect the marine environment and marine animals; make the shift to plant-based aquaculture; invest in cell-culture aquaculture research.
  • End logging in native forests and protect wildlife habitat; support those in the logging industry to transition; rewild and rehabilitate logged forests.

Our election platform focuses on issues that have broad public support in the Tasmanian community. Larger parties continue to ignore their constituents on these matters. This election is an opportunity for voters to make them listen. A number one vote for the Animal Justice Party sends a strong message that animals matter to voters.

Editor’s note: Tasmanian Times also asked the Shooters Fishers and Farmers to provide us with a ‘final pitch’ summary of their key policies and why someone should vote for them. If/when we receive their statement it will be added here.
