Bob Brown arrested in Styx forest protest

Bob Brown was one of three people arrested and taken to Bridgewater Police Station this morning. The arrests followed a Bob Brown Foundation protest against the logging destruction of World Heritage value forests in Tasmania’s Styx Valley of the Giants.

Ali Alishah, who was also arrested at the site last Friday, was retained in custody for allegedly breaking bail conditions.

Colette Harmsen and Bob Brown were charged with trespass but released on bail to appear before the Court of Petty Sessions in Hobart at 9.30 am on 27 April.

Media release – Rosalie Woodruff MP, Greens Leader, 19 February 2024

Thank You Bob Brown, Forests Champion

The Greens come from a proud history of forest defending. When this island’s wild places are threatened, so often it has been Bob Brown standing in their defence.

Time after time, it’s left to the conservation movement to stand up to Labor and the Liberals’ joint environmental destruction agenda.

In a climate and biodiversity crisis, protecting native forests should be a priority for the Liberal Government. Instead, they’re logging and burning swift parrot habitat and releasing mass carbon emissions.

When governments fail, good-hearted brave people step up. We thank Bob and all forest defenders for their tireless advocacy for these beautiful, ancient places. Their courage and strength inspire us all.

Change is possible.
