Media release – Tasmanian Electoral Commission, 12 January 2024

King Island Council by-election announced

A by-election conducted by postal ballot will be held to fill a vacancy on the King Island Council, following the absence of Councillor Sarina Laidler from 3 consecutive council meetings.

As Councillor Laidler was one of 8 candidates elected unopposed in October 2022, a recount of ballot papers to fill this vacancy is not possible.

A notice of by-election inviting nominations will be published in The Advocate newspaper on Saturday 13 January 2024.

Rolls will close at 6 pm on Thursday 18 January.

Nominations must be received by the returning officer no later than 12 noon on Tuesday 23 January.

Postal ballot packs will be delivered to voters from Tuesday 30 January and must be returned by 2 pm on Thursday 27 February to be included in the count.
