Media release – Burnie City Council Mayor – Teeny Brumby, 8 January 2024
Expressions of Interest Open for Major Community Events
From a CBD Light up the Night Festival, to a regular evening Food and Beverage Market celebrating all our city has to offer. If you have an event idea – together, we can bring it to reality!
Our event model is simply – we want to engage with community groups and organisations – we will supply most of the funding and other benefits, while our partners take on organising the event.
Some of the events that Burnie City Council supported last year under this model was the Burnie 10, 3,2,1 GO, and the SeaFM/7BUS 2023 New Years Eve Event – Fire on the Foreshore.
We are again seeking applications to conduct a number of vibrant events across our city during the 2024 year!
Some events ideas we want to see come to life this year:
- A regular evening festival celebrating our local food and beverage offerings
- Dinner Under the Stars – to coincide with the visit of a premium cruise ship
- Australia Day and/or community celebration
- A regular City Market
- Multicultural events
- Easter Fun at Burnie Park
- A Beach Party – including a sandcastle competition
- An opening event for the Coastal Pathway
- International Women’s and Men’s Day events
- A winter solstice event
- A Family Christmas Parade
- A Light Up the Night Festival
- New Years Eve Community Event
Council can offer:
- Funding for the event
- Guidance to help you create your event
- Where needed, mentoring in how to navigate any Council processes
- Promotion and advertising of your event to a wide audience
- Training session in the things you need to know to conduct a successful event
Submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) for these events to [email protected]. To do this, outline the vision you have for the event or tell us your own major event idea. Your vision should spark our interest but doesn’t have to be extensive at this time – if we are interested, we will contact you to discuss your event further.
Submissions open Monday 8 January and close Sunday 25 February 2024.
This EOI process for major events is separate to the Community Grants program being offered. The Community Grants funding is for smaller events where the amount of funding is capped.
For further information and guidance on how to submit an EOI, contact Council’s Events Team on 6430 7850.
