Media release – Tasmanian Craft Fair, 12 October 2023

Official program launched for 43rd annual Tasmanian Craft Fair

The official program has been launched today for the largest working craft fair in the Southern Hemisphere, The Tasmanian Craft Fair.

Now in its 43rd year, around 20,000 visitors are expected to enjoy a range of craft exhibits as well as expert and celebrity masterclasses.  Held over four days (November 3-6), this year more than 240 artisans will exhibit with everything from all the usual craft to more specialised areas like gardens, musical instruments, and jewellery.

Renowned interior designer Juliet Love, from Better Homes & Gardens, headlines the new Masterclasses program at the 2023 Fair.

Ms Love will present her masterclass and Q and A sessions in the new Venue 1 Auditorium with interior design tips including some of her favourite items from across the fair.

Juliet will also be part of the judging panel for the prestigious $10,000 Premiers Arts Prize.

Tasmanian Craft Fair Director, Michael Plunkett, said it was fantastic to have her taking part, with renewed focus on the ‘working’ aspect of the fair and a more hands-on, practical approach.

“We’re excited by the learning program including Juliet Love’s Interior Design masterclass on the Saturday and Sunday,” he said.

“Online ticket buyers will receive special offers ahead of the fair and we’ll also be announcing a few surprises during this year’s Fair too.”

“There’s no better way to buy a unique gift leading into Christmas or to support local than by starting a list of people you need to buy for then having them in mind as you wander across the sites.”

Wood craftsman Tony Mercorella designs and skilfully crafts functional works of art, furniture and homewares. From chairs to chopping boards and everything in between.

Hailing from Adelaide and with 50 years working in the timber industry, this will be Mr Mercorella’s fifth Tasmanian Craft Fair.

The former Premiers Art Prize winner loved Tasmania and the craft fair so much so much he recently decided to move here and set up a studio in Deloraine.

“I try to make pieces that are practical but also aesthetically pleasing. They need to have that wow factor.”

All tickets give entry for the four days of the Tasmanian Craft Fair.

Early bird tickets are on sale now and selling fast.
