Applications now open for Premier’s Fund for Children and Young People

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is increasing children and young people’s participation in recreational and social activities through a $500,000 grant program with applications for the Premier’s Fund for Children and Young People now open.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the grant program responds to the voices of the children and young people who wrote to him during the consultation to develop Tasmania’s Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy – It Takes a Tasmanian Village.

“The Tasmanian Liberal Government listens to the voices of children and young people; through this fund we can support actions that directly respond to what children and young people say is needed in their communities.

“Individual grants of up to $30,000 are available, from a funding pool of $500,000.”

The previous round of the Premier’s Fund for Children and Young People provided 41 organisations a share in almost $1.5 million funding for important projects, including skate parks, pump tracks, playground improvements, after school activities, youth programs, excursions for children with disabilities, and programs for Aboriginal and multicultural youth.

“Our Government is delivering for all Tasmanians by investing in the projects that matter to our communities,” the Premier said.

Eligible applicants include incorporated associations, not for profit community organisations, local government councils, independent schools and Parents and Friends Associations of government schools.

Successful applicants are required to link their proposals to a community need identified by children and young people, and to engage in ongoing consultation with children and young people around the planning and design of infrastructure or social activities.

The grant program is open until October 2, 2023, with successful applicants notified before the end of the year.

Media release – Roger Jaensch, Minister for Education, Children and Youth, 23 August 2023

One-stop early years centre getting ready to welcome north west families

The new Larapi* Child and Family Learning Centre will be open to families in the Wynyard area in coming weeks.

The Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering on its $28 million commitment to build six new Child and Family Learning Centres across the state.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, visited the newly-completed centre, located adjacent to the Table Cape Primary School, on Tuesday.

“This centre will provide access to a variety of important services and supports for local families with children aged 0-5 years,” Minister Jaensch said.

“Like all our Child and Family Learning Centres, the development of the Wynyard centre has been community-led, with a Local Enabling Group comprised of representatives from service providers, educators and community members involved in its design.

“As part of our 2021 election commitment, the Rockliff Liberal Government has been providing free access to speech and language pathologists, social workers and school psychologists in CFLCs since February 2022.”

Minister Jaensch thanked Burnie-based contractor Stubbs Construction for its work during construction, as well as members of the Local Enabling Group who helped shape the centre.

“Our Government is investing in the education and wellbeing services our youngest learners and their families need to thrive, while also supporting Tasmanian jobs during construction.”

Larapi is expected to open to families in coming weeks.
