Taps flow in Pioneer
Pioneer residents charged their glasses with some of the world’s best water today to celebrate completion of a $5M pipeline project that sees the town connected to reliable, treated drinking water.
Water from taps in the town now flows from TasWater’s extended Ringarooma Valley Water Scheme which already services other towns in the region.
As well as extending the water main from Winnaleah, a brand-new reticulated network has been installed through Pioneer by TasWater, with the water being given the tick of approval after undergoing rigorous testing.
Acting CEO, Tony Willmott said he took great pride in TasWater completing this project for the Pioneer community.
“It’s a great day for Pioneer locals and visitors as they can turn on the taps and have access to some of the best drinking water in the world,” Tony said.
“I’ve met with residents several times over the years, and I know what a difference this will make to them.
“Everyone has been really welcoming as we got the work done along the main road, and the project has run very smoothly and on budget.
“We’re committed to delivering high-quality and affordable services to our customers, and we are pleased that Pioneer residents can now have confidence in their water.”
Dorset Council Mayor Greg Howard said it was great to see the drinking water connected.
“Council are very satisfied that Pioneer has finally been connected to safe drinking water in what has been a rather long process,” Greg said.
“We would like to congratulate the contractors on the way they have conducted themselves during the construction and how they were able to complete the project with minimal disruption to residents and the town.’’
TasWater is currently delivering a planned 10-year, $1.84 billion capital investment program for completion in financial year 2025-26.
