Opening of the Burnie Print Prize 2023 – An initiative of the Burnie Regional Art Gallery (BRAG)

The Burnie Regional Art Gallery will be celebrating the opening of its ninth biennial Burnie Print Prize with live local music, a grazing table featuring Tasmanian Heritage cheeses, and of course – spectacular works submitted from established, emerging and cross-disciplinary artist’s from around Australia.
Offering a prize pool of $22,000, Mayor Teeny Brumby will be announcing the winning artist on the night, with the first prize taking home $16,000. An emerging artist will also be chosen and get to take home $5,000.
The Burnie Print Prize was first established in 2007 to:
- Develop the Gallery’s print collection
- Present the best of contemporary printmaking
- Support artists who work with the print medium
- Foster innovation in the print medium
- Promote an appreciation of the fine art of printmaking
- Recognize and celebrate craftsmanship
- Explore possibilities of the medium in contemporary practice
The Judges are:
- Milan Milojevic – Artist, printmaker, former Head of Printmaking, Senior Lecturer Printmaking, and Chief Investigator of the Digital Art Research Facility at the Tasmanian School of Art
- Ashley Bird – Artist, Senior Curator Visual Art and Design at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery
- Annika Romeyn – Artist, printmaker, 2021 Burnie Print Prize winner

The exhibition will run from Friday 21 July until Friday 8 September 2023.
