Invitation – Animals Tasmania, 25 June 2023
We’re Back!!
After a somewhat quiet time for animal rights in the last few years, Animals Tasmania (AT) is now reinvigorated with a newly elected committee. We are feeling inspired, having come through a challenging time of declining interest and enthusiasm, and the threat of AT ceasing to be.
Animals Tasmania is buoyed by the knowledge that there have been many successful actions and events in years gone by. We know there is much still to be done and we are feeling enthused about carrying on the good work of those who went before. Read on for news of what we are up to and how you can get involved.

VeganFest 2024
The Animals Tasmania committee are keen to get VeganFest happening again. Celebrating all things vegan, Tasmania’s only vegan festival started with the inaugural festival back in 2018 at Kingston Beach Hall. This family friendly event was for anyone with an interest in vegan living, whatever stage of the journey they are on. The first VeganFest proved so popular that we needed a bigger venue, so the next two were held at Kingston Community Hub. We even managed to pull off VeganFest during Covid when a lot of other festivals were cancelled, finding it too hard to meet the strict Health Department conditions for events.
We tried to move up a notch moving VeganFest to PW1 in 2021 but this didn’t happen due to a number of factors, one being the huge cost of running an event at PW1. It also marked a period when Animals Tasmania was struggling to find members and had a very small committee to do all the work needed to get a large event off the ground.
The new committee are looking at holding VeganFest possibly in March/April next year. Kate Lucas has been appointed Director for the event. We are already looking at possible venues. We are also putting out the feelers for interested vegan businesses, food businesses especially as a few seemed to have folded in the last couple of years. If you are interested in being part of VeganFest, or know somebody who would be interested, send an email to Kate via [email protected]
