Woman detected driving four times over the legal alcohol limit in Bicheno
Saturday, 27 May 2023 – 11:54 am.
A 42-year-old Bicheno woman has been charged with high range drink driving and disqualified from driving for 12 months after she was detected over four times the legal alcohol limit at around 11:50am yesterday.
The woman was intercepted in the Bicheno area by police and returned a reading of 0.222 after breath analysis.
The woman received an automatic 12 month driving disqualification and will appear in court at a later date.
If anyone witnesses drink driving, or other dangerous driving behaviour, call police on 131 444 or triple-zero (000) in an emergency.
Three youths arrested after robbery at Claremont overnight
Saturday, 27 May 2023 – 2:57 pm.
Three youths have been charged with attempted aggravated robbery and other offences following an incident at the Ampol Service Station in Claremont at about 11.10pm last night.
The youths aged between 13 and 15 years entered the store and attempted to steal items before being confronted by staff and members of the public.
Windows and doors are alleged to have been smashed with a hammer during the incident.
Police located and arrested the youths nearby a short time later and they will be appearing in an out of hours court session later today.
Thankfully no one was physically injured in the incident.
Inspector Gary Williams said that crimes and offences involving any weapons are taken very seriously and will not be tolerated by police.
Man caught driving 80km/h over the speed limit
Saturday, 27 May 2023 – 7:13 pm.
A man from southern Tasmanian has been detected by police today exceeding the speed limit by 80km/h on Brinktop Road, Penna.
Constable Shane Etherington said the car was detected travelling at 160km/h in an 80km/h zone along Brinktop Road.
“Speeding at any level is not safe and places all Tasmanian road users at risk”.
“It’s disappointing that road users continue to travel at such high speeds and don’t heed the continued advice from Tasmania Police”.
“All road users are reminded that police can and will clamp vehicles detected travelling at 45km/h or more above the speed limit.
“Dangerous drivers will be removed from our roads and police will continue to clamp or seize vehicles detected travelling at excessive speeds.
“Speeding puts the driver and other motorists at the very real risk of being killed or seriously injured in a crash,” said Constable Etherington.

Man dies in single vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway, Cambridge
Sunday, 28 May 2023 – 11:06 am.
Sadly, a man has died after a single vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway, Cambridge at about 11.40pm last night.
Police and emergency services were advised of a Mitsubishi van that had crashed into a sign at the entry to the Tasmania Golf Course at Cambridge.
The car caught fire as a result of the crash and was extinguished by Tasmania Fire Service.
The driver, and sole occupant, a 45-year-old man from Oakdowns was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Inspector Gary Williams said “our thoughts are with the man’s family and his loved ones at this time.”
“This was an extremely confronting scene for the emergency service workers who attended, and support will be provided over the coming days.”

RECKLESSLY DISCHARGE A FIREARM – ALLARDYCE AVENUE, GOODWOOD

At 8:37pm on Sunday 28 May 2023, police responded to a report of a single cartridge being discharged from a firearm into an occupied house in Allardyce Avenue, Goodwood.
The person(s) responsible for this offence had fled the area prior to the arrival of Police.
No one was injured during the incident, and initial investigations indicate that this maybe a targeted offence. There are no immediate safety concerns for the wider community.
Anyone who observed any suspicious persons and/or vehicles in the area of Allardyce Avenue, Goodwood between 8.20pm and 8.40pm, is asked to come forward.

Rosetta Pedestrian Crash
Monday, 29 May 2023 – 9:03 am.
Police are investigating a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Main Road Rosetta earlier tonight.
A 13 year old boy from Rosetta was reportedly crossing the road near the Brooker Highway entrance when he was struck by a silver Honda Civic being driven by a 65 year old woman.
As a result of the crash the youth received significant facial and head injuries and is being assessed and treated at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Police are investigating, but early indications are that speed and drugs/alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Firearm discharge injury, Tea Tree
Monday, 29 May 2023 – 9:04 am.
Police are investigating an incident in Tea Tree in southern Tasmania this morning where a man received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The 59 year-old man from Sandford is in a stable condition after being shot in the neck during a hunting activity at a bush property in Tea Tree in southern Tasmania.
Investigations are ongoing but Is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.

Man charged with drug trafficking in Hobart
Monday, 29 May 2023 – 9:54 am.
A 20-year-old southern Tasmanian man has been charged with trafficking after a search warrant was executed at a Hobart premises on Saturday.
As a result of the search a significant quantity of LSD and MDMA, as well as a large quantity of cash, was located and seized. The drugs have an estimated street value of $60,000.
The man was arrested at the scene and charged with the major offence of trafficking in controlled substance.
He will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in July.

Armed Robbery – Woolworths supermarket Mowbray
Saturday, 27 May 2023 – 10:00 am.
Police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at Woolworths Supermarket in Mowbray last night.
At around 9:50pm a male youth entered the supermarket and selected a quantity of items before attempting to leave the store without paying.
When the youth was approached by supermarket staff, he produced a knife and threatened staff before fleeing on foot.
No one was injured during the incident.
The male youth is described as 12-15 years old, slim build, wearing a black jumper and glasses.
Investigations are continuing.
