Media release – Department of State Growth, 15 November 2022
Flood recovery update
Poatina Road will be open to one lane tomorrow after a major landslip blocked the road.
Approximately 5000 tonnes of material has been removed from the site.
We have installed larger 1600 mm culverts which are designed to reduce the impact of future flood events.
Our contractor is on-site at St Marys Pass and more equipment has arrived to assist in stabilising and protecting the road from future landslips and undermining of the road.
As work progresses, we will have a firmer understanding of the length of time required.
Elephant Pass remains open to all road users with a reduced speed limit and a short section that has been reduced to one lane.
We are monitoring the road closely and will be doing repair work on some damaged sections this week once the weather is drier.
Wet weather has seen Railton Road suffer some further potholing in the section that has been reduced to one lane, with short-term repairs underway today [Tuesday, 15 November]. Longer-term repairs will start next week.
Work began last week and continued over the weekend on the damaged section of the Ouse suspension bridge on Bashan Road, Waddamana. It is expected the repairs will take around three weeks to complete. The ford next to the bridge is open for vehicles to use.
Poor weather is expected this week and we remind road users to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of all traffic controllers and signs. They are in place for your safety and to keep other road users safe.
We want to thank the public for their patience while we work to return roads to safe conditions.
