Flood damage road repairs update

Roads in northern Tasmania continue to be monitored and repaired following the recent severe weather, and in advance of further rain expected over the coming days.

The Cam River Bridge has been reduced to one lane of traffic due to flood damage, following investigations earlier today. We are working to restore the bridge to two lanes of traffic as soon as possible and will provide further updates once more information is available.

Railton Road is now open under extreme caution, following extensive damage in some sections. The road is gravel in parts, and one section of the road has been reduced to one lane, operated by traffic lights.

Reduced speed limits of 60 km/hr and 40 km/hr apply, and the lane closure and reduced speed limits will be in place until longer term repairs can be completed.

Road users across the state are advised to drive with extreme caution and obey temporary speed limit reductions and traffic management in place on many roads in Tasmania’s north and northwest.

These speed limit reductions are in place at all times, whether work is underway or not, for the safety of road users. We understand it can be frustrating to drive at lower speed limits when no one is working, but a lower speed limit is needed to keep people safe on the roads and avoid damage to vehicles or further damage to the road.

We continue to work closely with our emergency management partners. The situation remains dynamic and works may need to be reprioritised if circumstances change.

With wet weather forecast over the coming days, the public are again advised to drive with caution in wet conditions, and to remain up to date with the latest warnings from TasALERT, and emergency road closure advice from Tasmania Police.
