Hobart Airport vision sets a course for growth

The Tasmanian Government welcomes today’s release of Hobart International Airport’s 2022 Draft Master Plan for consultation.

The Masterplan sets out a strong vision for expansion and growth, and is a fantastic sign of confidence in not only our world-class tourism industry, but also our booming trade and exports sector.

The proposed development will cater for the current and projected growth of passenger numbers, in addition to realising the opportunities for it to become an important strategic hub for the nation in respect to Antarctic and Defence requirements.

The proposed upgrading of the runway surface will also allow larger aircraft that will increase the state’s attraction and capability from a freight and passenger perspective.

And, we know that Tasmania has what the world wants, and upgrading the airport will potentially allow us to get more of our in-demand product to even more markets around the globe.

Well done to Norris Carter and the team at Hobart Airport, and I look forward to the community consultation in the months ahead on this exciting development.

Our Government will continue to work closely with Hobart International Airport management to realise this vision for the airport, which is one of the state’s most important assets.
