The Local Party has achieved national registration

The AEC has confirmed the national registration of The Local Party.

“We are thrilled,” said lead Senate candidate  and local popular publican Leanne Minshull .”We are very grateful that so many Australians believe in what we are building.”

Australia’s newest political Party has 1700 members across the country and is running candidates for the Upper and Lower House in the upcoming Federal election.

Hours away from having the 500 members previously required for registration; the Labor & Liberal parties voted to up the numbers to 1500 members.

“That was hard. But in a way it was great, we had hundreds of members sign up within days. People know that Canberra isn’t working. They want positive solutions and collaborative ways to address the myriad challenges we face.”

Leanne Minshull, has been joined on the Senate ticket by lawyer and justice reform advocate Linda Poulton and filmmaker Lara Van Raay.

Anna Bateman, long time TV producer, is running for the Federal seat of Franklin in Tasmania.

“Franklin is neighbour to Andrew Wilkie’s Seat of Clark and we think the people of Franklin are looking for an independent alternative,”  said Ms Bateman.

And the Local Party isn’t just about getting people elected, we have mechanisms within our party constitution that will help to restore faith in our democracy.”

Veteran rights advocate Julie-Ann Finney is The Local Party’s Senate candidate in South Australia.

“We have fantastic candidates, who are connected and active in their communities and we will soon be launching our candidate for a Senate seat in NSW. It’s a very exciting time,” Ms Bateman added
