Greens Plan To Lock Up The Tamar
The Greens have announced a $6 million Tamar River anti-action plan to keep the waterway locked up.
Their announcement today that they will replace the existing Tamar Estuary Management Taskforce with a new advisory panel to run more consultation and less action will restrict access and offer no tangible solutions.
Labor and the Greens have form locking up Tasmania’s resources, but what the Tamar needs is action.
That’s why a majority Gutwein Liberal Government has today announced a plan to secure the future of the Tamar by fixing it to ensure recreational and commercial users can continue to access and enjoy our northern waterway.

Liberals remain silent on kanamaluka/Tamar report
Despite previous commitments to release the already overdue Tamar Estuary Management Taskforce (TEMT) report before May 1, Peter Gutwein will now withhold the report until after the election.
Peter Gutwein and the Liberals are leading a culture of secrecy and obfuscation, treating Tasmanian voters with contempt.
This is a blatant attempt by the Liberals to shut down community conversation after they failed to come up with any long-term management solution for the kanamaluka/River Tamar.
Two days ago, we revealed our plan for kanamaluka/River Tamar. The Greens would create a management authority that would take a holistic, scientific approach to restoration of the Tamar Valley and the catchment for the estuary.
This would be a community-driven approach to deal with the mud, deal with the ricegrass, and resolve the impact of excessive logging practices and effluent discharge.
When given the opportunity to present their proposals, the Liberals failed at the first hurdle, offering only to progress more dredging.
The Liberals have offered no meaningful long-term proposal, only the same tired, stale and empty excuses everyone has heard before. This is a failure of leadership by Peter Gutwein.
Tasmanians deserve an open and transparent government, and after seven years, voters are not getting this from the Liberals.
The demand is simple; release the report now Peter Gutwein. The people demand it.
