Rob Inglis recently published a piece in The Examiner titled ‘Labor needs to distance itself from vlogger friendlyjordies’.
The gist of the 26 September op-ed was apparently that he finds some of positions of the YouTuber offensive. The channel by comedian and activist Jordan Shanks, who goes by the moniker friendlyjordies, has 463 thousand subscribers.
Inglis declared that the ALP and in particular leader Anthony Albanese needed to denounce the channel. It is unashamedly pro-ALP and loud, and generally not afraid to ruffle feathers. Inglis took the vlogger to task for, among other things, its unsympathetic characterisation of koala man John Barilaro including the use of a mock Italian accent.
“Labor’s decision to seemingly brush aside the darker aspects of Shanks’ persona is unprincipled,” he opined.
friendlyjordies shot back in the video reply below. As of today, it had been viewed almost 132 thousand times with 22 thousand likes and 78 dislikes.
Meanwhile, Inglis has taken down his Twitter account.
