Major religious and civil society organisations have signed on to the national redress scheme for victims of institutional child sexual abuse.
At a press conference on Thursday, social services minister Dan Tehan announced the Anglican Church, Salvation Army, YMCA Australia and Scouts Australia had agreed to participate in the scheme, joining the Catholic Church and all states and territories bar Western Australia. Speaking in parliament, Tehan praised former prime minister Julia Gillard for establishing the royal commission into institutional responses to child sex abuse, as well as shadow social services minister Jenny Macklin “for the personal interest that she has taken in this issue” …
