Further to our media release, Friday 25th May calling for the ban on 1080 poisons.

It’s time this government started to listen to landowners, why are they not subsidising boundary fences for our farmers, it’s not right that our local farmers are left to do the heavy lifting, while those in parliament sit on their fat hands and pretend they are supportive of our farmers, when in reality they are not.

Combine subsidised wallaby proof fencing with Property-based Wildlife Management Plans, pest grazing animals can certainly be managed, and there are many fine examples of hundreds on properties throughout this state.

Why the continued use of 1080 poison is not a solution in Tasmania
The risk of accidental poisoning of livestock
The risk of accidental poisoning of non-targeted species
The risks of accidental poisoning of endangered species
Animal welfare is important, this is why shooting is recognised as a humane control method
The image of 1080 poison puts at risk our tourism market
The image risks it presents to our export markets, both nationally and internationally
The animal welfare issues of secondary and primary poisoning
1080 poison is highly soluble and can easily enter our fragile waterways
Animals taking up to 44 hrs to die, cruelty to target, and non-target species, if an individual treated an animal in this way, they would be rightly charged and prosecuted.
