Design Tasmania and National Trust Tasmania to Blend Contemporary and Heritage Design

Posted on

The National Trust of Australia (Tasmania) has partnered with Design Tasmania to celebrate 25 years of the Tasmanian Wood Collection.

The curated exhibition of the Wood Collection has been in residence alongside historical furniture pieces at Clarendon since January and will officially launch on April 21st.

Set in 7 hectares of parkland on the banks of the South Esk River, Clarendon is one of the oldest National Trust properties in Tasmania and provides an unusual and contextually interesting setting for the contemporary exhibition pieces.

Karina Clarke, CEO of Design Tasmania, stated “this is a rare chance to consider the aesthetic and technical differences – and also the similarities – in furniture from two highly contrasting eras’.

Design Tasmania and the National Trust Tasmania will be hosting a special ticketed In Conversation event on the 21st to coincide with the official launch where design editor and trend forecaster David Clark and furniture historian Virginia Wright will discuss the ideas behind the blending of heritage and contemporary design.

The exhibition will continue to be available for viewing at Clarendon until the end of May and is open to the public during regular opening hours, Thursday through to Sunday 10am until 4pm.

Book tickets for this special one-off event now online www.nationaltrusttas.rezdy.com or through the Design Tasmania store.
