Take a good look at this magnificent Tarkine myrtle Will and Guy.
It’s probably a millennium old, and has been living in harmony with the earth since its creation.
Unlike you two, it has a dazzling character and radiates with life.
Only a heartless creature would wantonly choose to desecrate such beauty, and that’s exactly what the Liberals desire!
This tree would have no commercial industrial value, yet under the Liberals’ plan to open up the high conservation forests for uneconomical logging, this tree would be bulldozed into a pile, ignited by fire or left to rot.
I could write chapters to condemn such heartless action, though a poem says more!
When I see a grand old myrtle,
I see a wise old being
There is nothing more moving
Than to feel its presence,
To sleep under it boughs,
Or to absorb its bountiful spirit.Like a child in awe staring up into a cathedral,
I ponder on its very existence.
For they are the elders of our rainforest.
The Takayna’s soul.
*Ted Mead drafted up the first Wilderness Society Tarkine Rainforest proposal back in 1987 using the research work of Steven Mattingley. Over the past 30 years Ted has explored a lot of the Tarkine area on the ground and has discovered many beautiful wild places. Ted believes the preservation of the greater Tarkine as a World Heritage Area is inevitable despite the Liberals attempts to the contrary!
