Shadow Education Minister Michelle O’Byrne said the Liberals’ confusing announcement at Ulverstone High today throws up more questions than answers.

“The Government is giving the impression that Ulverstone High will definitely be extended to year 12 before it has properly consulted with key stakeholders,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“The Minister should explain who he consulted with prior to today’s announcement.

“The Liberals need to explain what extending high schools like Ulverstone to year 12 will mean for the future of Don College.

“What courses will be offered at Ulverstone and therefore what courses will be cut from a vibrant college like Don?

“This is the part of the Liberals’ policy that they’ve never been able to explain.

“The Minister says his policy is not about taking students away from colleges but that’s the inevitable outcome.

“There’s been no independent assessment or evaluation of the strengths of the policy, its weaknesses and what might change.

“Instead we’ve got a government that’s hell-bent on delivering its political agenda with little care for whether they are delivering the best outcome for our kids.”
