TAMAR VALLEY PULP MILL SUPPLY CONTRACT FINALLY TORN UP
The Tasmanian Greens today received confirmation that Forestry Tasmania’s Long Term Pulpwood Supply Agreement for the failed Tamar Valley Pulp Mill project no longer exists.
Greens Forestry spokesperson Kim Booth MP said Forestry Tasmania had revealed during Government Business Enterprise hearings today that the agreement had finally been torn up.
“Those who were waiting for final confirmation that the pulp mill is dead should take heart that the Crown’s pulpwood supply contract no longer exists,” Mr Booth said.
“The agreement provided for 1 million tonnes of native forest and 500,000 tonnes of plantation from public lands every year.”
“This is good news for the Launceston and Tamar Valley communities. The next logical step is the repeal of the Pulp Mill Assessment Act (2007) which the Greens are committed to pursuing.”
