TFGA scores $25.50 increase for McCain potatoes
Tasmanian potato growers who supply McCain Foods have accepted a $20 per tonne price increase for this season’s crop.
With an additional $5.50 per tonne for smaller potatoes and plant variety rights, it brings the increase to about par with Simplot’s and also McCain’s price to Ballarat growers.
McCain’s Tasmanian growers had been hit with a $26.50 price drop at the beginning of the season, so the new offer claws most of that back.
“Growers are happy with the increase,” said the TFGA’s Daryl Lohrey, who chairs the McCain potato committee.
“We are now resuming discussions on the price for the 2011/12 crop.”
