Australian football legend Darrel Baldock has died at the age of 72 in a Tasmanian hospital
The man known as “the Doc” was surrounded by family members when he died last night at the Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe after a series of strokes.
Doc Baldock’s breath taking football skills were legendary during two decades as a player in Tasmania and Victoria.
He joined St Kilda in 1962 playing 119 matches and captained the club’s 1966 premiership team.
In later years, Mr Baldock spent 15 years in state politics, rising to the rank of cabinet minister.
Tributes are flowing from the football and Tasmanian community.
AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou says a hero has been taken from the AFL community.
