Meander Valley Council candidate phill Parsons is concerned about Council’s latest planning shambles because it is won’t bring planning for the municipality into the 21st century.

“Council’s current attempt to abort its new Draft Scheme is a mistake.”

phill Parsons said. “Meander Valley Council should honour its obligation to the community, made through its Strategic Plan, to introduce a new planning scheme.”

He considers that planning at local government level is vital because it can be most responsive to the wishes of the community. He says that the 2007 Draft planning Scheme is absolutely the best way to have input to a regional planning process.

Mr Parson’s explained that because the existing 1995 Meander Valley Scheme does not meet current state planning directive it is in urgent need of an update.

“Meander Valley Council has been on a path towards a new scheme since

2001 and its time to get on with its new local scheme not to be diverted by regionalism.” he said.

Mr Parsons points out that people make a major investment when they decide to live or operate a small business anywhere.

“Families, homes and businesses depend on a modern local planning scheme to provide a secure and sustainable future” he said.

Meander Valley Council will consider the question of whether or not to continue with the new Planning Scheme at a meeting this Tuesday. Mr Parsons urges Council to either decide to go ahead with the new Planning Scheme or to defer the decision until after the election to allow the new council to consider the issue.

“Councillors owe the community a fair and just process over this planning scheme.”
