More new appointments to soon to be axed agency
· Since the decision to abolish DEPHA was made, three key new appointments to DEPHA have been made
· That’s on top of the Departmental Secretary having his contract renewed for three years
· Does the government have any idea what it is doing?
The government has made three new appointments to the Department of Environment Parks Heritage and the Arts since deciding to abolish it.
That’s on top of the new three year contract given to the Agency Head on May 5 – one day after the department’s abolition was discussed in Cabinet, and a few days before it was formally agreed.
Does the left hand even know what the right hand is doing in this government? Why would you appoint new staff to an agency about to be axed, at a cost of some 40 existing jobs?
One of the new jobs created is for a Human Resources Officer – a corporate support role. Yet the Premier has already said that it was the corporate support roles that he intended to abolish to achieve the saving. What on earth is going on here?
Last week’s government gazette reveals that the following appointments to DEPHA took effect from May 20, nine days after the government decided to abolish the department:
· Manager, projects and change management
· Human Resource Officer
On May 14, the appointment of a new media manager for DEPHA took effect.
And on May 7, an instrument of appointment for the Head of Agency, Scott Gadd, was signed, including generous early termination provisions.
The government’s admitted that it only needs Mr Gadd in this position for about three to six months but it may find some other new position for him after that.
What about these other positions? And do early termination provisions also apply?
