The Liberal Opposition has pledged to match the State Government and return Tasmania’s finances to surplus in 2012 if it is elected next year. Liberal leader Will Hodgman’s formal response to last week’s State Budget has emphasised fiscal responsibility. He has matched the government’s pledge to avoid net debt and return the budget to surplus in 2012. Mr Hodgman says the Liberals would immediately abolish the Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority and use the money to set up an ethics commission. He says all the Liberals’ statements are fully costed, putting them on a equal financial footing with the government. Read more here
