Growing up in Tasmania in a small town called Copping in a single parent family presented its own challenges for Linda early in life. From an early age she was independent, working menial factory jobs to support herself through an education and the dream of a career. Eventually, unsatisfied with the world that presented, she spent over 6 months living at a Buddhist centre that changed her life, mindset and spirituality.
“Close your eyes and see with your heart!”
Linda Riseley uses moving images to express the wordless but loud voice of the heart and the truth that lies within. They are inspired by a personal understanding of the world she inhabits and her own spiritual journey. These poetic visualisations portray the essence of her experiences and are translated into a moving form that touch our emotions and speak to our soul.
Her work deals with the unseen pain that is so traumatic that when you eventually surface, you wonder how you ever survived. It goes beyond the borders of the human condition and speaks the truth in a universal way. Grinding away at the heart we search for the light within, clouded by deeds, thoughts, feelings of darkness and a blurred reality we look for our soul. The eyes speak the truth, our light within.

Linda’s installation is designed to move the viewer through the room. Images are reflected onto various surfaces that encourage you to explore the space, forgetting the four walls that surround and entering her dream. A mirror immediately attracts your attention only to guide you to the ceiling where the journey continues. Dedicated to the art of the moving image and its limitless possibility, her work is complex and intense. Images linger. The more you look, the more you are drawn into its hypnotic spell. On all levels, Linda’s work resonates with the senses.
Linda has a Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering with electives in Fine Art.
