Out beyond the hills that shelter the city, on the mountain slopes, the valleys and the plains, remarkable forests are being trashed. A vast biomass of eucalypts, sassafrass, myrtles, tree ferns, tea trees, mosses and all else that dwells among them; a myriad of ‘lungs’, ‘water tanks’ and the ‘soil keepers’ sustaining this extraordinary and precious world. It beggars belief that those who hold corporate and Government power in this state shut their eyes and tell the people blankly that all is good.
And,
What is going on that Forestry Tasmania is planning to put a road through the beautiful Rattler Range; a small isolated North East beech and rainforest forest reserve of outstanding national significant. Apparently the road is designed for to give the Gunns woodchip company more economical access to its pulpwood plantation nearby.
And this is before a biggest, most efficient pulp mill in the world (sic) begins its ravenous demands.
Will nothing be held safe for Tasmanians even when it is declared so.
